CHASE GARRETT (USA) PIANO & VOCALS

Chase Garrett Iowa City native Chase Garrett, voted “Best Local Act” by the Daily Iowan in 2011, began playing piano professionally at age seventeen and within a few years was performing at Blues and Boogie Woogie festivals across the U.S. and Europe. Chase has been heavily influenced by artists such as Meade “Lux” Lewis, Otis Spann, Wynonie Harris and Louis Prima and as such his style has grown into an infectious blend of foot stomping Boogie Woogie, super swinging Jump Blues and powerhouse Piano Blues that is sure to have you grinning from ear to ear. Chase has dedicated himself to the piano not only as a pianist, but also as an event organizer, instructor and technician. He has brought world class pianists to the Englert Theatre in Iowa City, IA for his annual Blues & Boogie Woogie Piano Stomp concert series for the past 8 years and has taught master classes and piano performance at colleges, blues weeks and swing camps across the U.S. Chase is also one of the founding members of St. Louis based Jump Blues band Sweetie & The Toothaches!

Audiences can expect to hear a mixture of powerhouse Chicago Blues, foot stomping Boogie Woogie and super swinging Jump Blues!

PADDY MILNER (ANG) PIANO & VOCALS

Paddy Milner Paddy Milner is not only recognised as one of the leading blues piano players in the world (he is currently keyboard player of choice for SIR TOM JONES , following several years with the late great JACK BRUCE), but also as a superb original songwriter and distinctive singer. Just read the praise from the likes of Dave Brubeck! His current group LONDONOLA plays homegrown British music with a strong dose of New Orleans spirit, and his collaborative group JAWBONE has released their debut album and is building a strong following. He has won the award for BEST KEYBOARD PLAYER in the British Blues Awards twice. His solo shows are a pianistic tour-de-force, transporting the audience on a journey embracing traditional Boogie-Woogie, Blues & New Orleans styles, multi-faceted improvisation and the art of song.

Milner began his career playing in Dorset pubs in his early teens. At the age of 13 Milner performed an original boogie composition in a local music competition, impressing a judge – Pretenders/Paul McCartney guitarist Robbie McIntosh. McIntosh became a great mentor and bought Milner his first Little Feat album, a defining moment. Continuing to absorb blues & boogie, which will always remain a fundamental part of his music, Milner also explored jazz, classical music and played in his father’s folk band. Later on, he was to learn from the masters including duetting with the legendary Jonnie Johnson and learning from Jon Cleary in New Orleans. Milner remembers his father introducing him to the music of the likes of Jack Bruce, with whom Milner regularly toured with until Bruce’s death in 2014.

TOMMY WEISS (GER) PIANO

Tommy Weiss Early on, Tommy Weiss learned to value the phenomenon of "swing" through his jazz-enthusiastic parents and was already convinced that good music had to "swing" and to "groove", no matter what style it is. Accordingly, he offers his listeners a lot of this – combined with a bandwidth of different styles like Blues, Boogie Woogie, Harlem Stride or other varieties of jazz. Sometimes Fats Waller, Erroll Garner, Don Ewell, or Art Tatum seems to be heard. And yet he always brings so much of his own incomparable style that one is overwhelmed.

Already in the mid-80s began his career in the Munich music scene and he quickly earned an ever-growing fan base. Until 1993, the pianist excelled at numerous festivals and concerts like the Munich Blues Gala, Frankfurt Opera Ball, Jazz Piano Gala at the Munich Philharmonic Hall, Tollwood Festival, New Orleans Festival Ascona and he was able to perform his stylistic spectrum very successfully, with many unforgettable moments. He then slowly retired from the stage to devote himself to his second outstanding art, drawing and design. Since 2007, Tommy Weiss is back on stage at selected piano highlights such Chill At The Phil at the Luxembourg Philharmonique, Jazz Piano Marathon Munich, Pianist Festival Künstlerhaus Munich, Pianissimo Nuremberg, Lucerne Off Stage Piano Festival, Boogie Nights Germany and thrilled the audience with his outstanding way to play.

In October he received the "Pinetop" in the category "Stride- and Boogie-Piano" as part of the German-Boogie-Woogie Award 2019 in Bremen, Germany.
