CARL SONNY LEYLAND Carl Sonny Leyland was born & raised on the South Coast of England, growing up close to the city of Southampton. As a child he was drawn to the American music which he heard on LP records his father would play. It was here that he developed an appreciation for Dixieland jazz, the rock & roll of the 1950s & the country music of Jimmie Rodgers & Hank Williams.

At age 15 Leyland discovered boogie woogie when he heard a school friend working through a written arrangement of a tune called JD's Boogie Woogie. Captivated by the sound of the repeating 8 to the bar left hand pattern, Leyland was inspired to go to the piano & begin on a path that would become his life's purpose.

Initially influenced by boogie woogie greats Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson & Meade 'Lux' Lewis, Leyland went on to fully explore the piano blues genre, becoming an authority on early & obscure styles such as those played by Cow Cow Davenport, Little Brother Montgomery, Montana Taylor & Speckled Red to name a few.

In 1988 Leyland had the opportunity to come to the USA. This initial visit to New Orleans inspired him to relocate to that city where he would spend the next nine years. During that time he was active on the club scene, quickly gaining a reputation for his authentic blues & early rock & roll stylings. Also, he toured with the Dallas based band Anson Funderburgh & the Rockets whose line up included blues great Sam Myers.

In 1997, feeling the need for a change, Leyland relocated to Southern California. By this time his repertoire had expanded to include ragtime & early jazz styles which enabled him to become part of the traditional jazz scene around Los Angeles & San Diego. Whether playing solo or with his trio, Leyland's playing displays an infectious spontaneity, providing plenty of surprises for the listener.  While he possesses the necessary vocabulary to pay tribute to the greats of old, he refuses to be limit himself to this & prefers to let each performance be an opportunity to say something new.

JEAN-PIERRE BERTRAND Born in Saint-Germain-en Laye in 1955, Jean-Pierre’s youth, from age 14, was dedicated to the studying of this particular jazz style and was influenced by such performers as Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson, Sammy Price, Memphis Slim, Lloyd Glenn or Meade Lux Lewis.

Since 1989, he has been the organizer and producer of the “Jazz and Boogie nights”. Since then he has recorded 10 albums, either solo or with the “Jazz and Boogie piano nights”. Performing at jazz festivals, he appeared at the 97’ Cincinnati blues festival (USA), in Detroit in 98 during a Classic jazz special and at the Hannover (Germany) and The Hague (Holland) jazz festivals among many others.

He gave live duet performances with Ray Bryant, Bob Seeley, Axel Zwingenberger, Little Willie Littlefield and often with French master pianist Jean-Paul Amouroux. The base of his style involves Blues sessions and Boogie-Woogie covers of Jazz standards.

.J-P Bertrand’s repertoire consists in a great deal of Boogie references such as "Boogie woogie Stomp", "Honky tonk train Blues", "Pinetop's Boogie"… as well as New Orleans Jazz or Blues themes like "Swanee river Boogie", "All of me", "The Sheik of Araby" and also "My blue Heaven". He also plays his own compositions, a mix of Jazz swing, Blues & Boogie woogie and many standards of Jazz played with the "Boogie groove" !

An ardent and undertaking promoter of Jazz music-P Bertrand travels Europe and the world to share his passion for piano.

Lluís Coloma Born in Barcelona in 1973, Lluís Coloma is one of the most recognized and in-demand pianists in the European Blues scene. After hearing the sounds of Jerry Lee Lewis, Roosevelt Sykes and Alan Price he migrated from stuffy classical lessons to self-taught rock & roll eventually showing a remarkable ability for Blues and Boogie Woogie. Today Lluis is considered a specialist and garners accolades and awards such as “Best Catalan Musician 2003” and “Artista BluesCat 2006”. When not recording and performing Lluís gives conferences and master classes on the history of Blues and Boogie Woogie piano and is one of the few pianists in Spain able to recreate the primitive styles of the genre. He is the artistic director of the Barcelona Blues Festival, organizes the annual Blues & Boogie Reunion, the Barcelona Blues Society’s Boogie Woogie Jubilee and is a mainstay on the European blues & piano festival circuit.

From the beginning, Lluís has made a mark in Blues & Boogie Woogie penning his own compositions on the critically acclaimed releases REMEMBER (Omix Records 2002), BOOGIEOLOGY (Fresh Sound Records 2003) and LONELY AVENUE (Swing Alley 2006). In his Cd, BOOGIE PORTRAITS (Swing Alley 2008), Lluís recorded duets with Blues & Boogie Woogie piano greats Carl Sonny Leyland, Barrelhouse Chuck, Mitch Woods, Bob Seeley, Mark “Mr B” Braun, Frank Muschalle and others. In 2007 Lluís played festivals in the United States alongside David Maxwell, Mitch Woods, Bruce Katz, and Axel Zwingenberger. Naturally, he tours throughout Europe and occasionally as far such as Malaysia’s Miri Jazz Festival in ’06 & ’07. Lluís recorded his first live Cd, 7 NIGHTS AT CENTRAL (Swing Alley 2009), during a week of concerts at Café Central in Madrid wrapped up by a unique atmosphere and a warm audience. After that he recorded ROCKIN’ MY BLUES IN CHICAGO a solo piano tribute to the great Xicago pianist, produced by Barrelhouse Chuck. Lately he released his last Cd INTERNATIONAL BOOGIE WOOGIE EXPLOSION with the living Boogie Woogie legend Bob Seeley, a piano duet Cd where tradition and modernity meets in a natural way.
